Staying True To Your Event Vision While Involving Family And Friends

When it comes to planning an event, sometimes it feels like everyone has an opinion. Right? It's in these moments where you have the decision to allow the matter to overwhelm you or simply figure out a strategy to navigate it all.

So how do you incorporate the voices of multiple people in the process of planning a wedding (or any other special event)?

It’s definitely a tricky situation to navigate. The more people who are involved in the planning process, the more difficult it is to make concrete decisions about the details of your day. However, there are definitely ways this can be done diplomatically and still provide value to you as you go through the process.

First, give those well-meaning family members actual tasks. Once you have a list of things that need to be done, actually assign tasks that you know they’d like to be involved with. Rather than having everyone involved in every decision, make them the owner of just one.

Let your sister find all the perfect places to shop for your dress.

Have your maid-of-honor find amazing options for your bridesmaids' dresses.

Is your aunt a wiz with flowers? Let her pick out several florists for you to visit!

You see what I’m doing here? Not only are you consulting them in their area of expertise, but you’re also removing some of the lift that comes with having to research all of this on your own.

Then, let that person come with you when you actually go to do the vendor visits. They’ll feel involved, they’ll have contributed, and they’ll be helping you in a way that really does HELP instead of creating more chaos.

Here’s the thing though, don’t let them decide which pieces they’re helping you with. Keep control of the process and the conversation by telling them exactly what they can help you with and then go from there.

When you give too much freedom to the people in your life who want to help you’ll find yourself trying to figure out what happened to YOUR vision amongst all of theirs.

Communicate your vision and then delegate.

Feel like even this is overwhelming? Schedule a free consultation call and let’s see how Debra’s Details & Designs can help you make sense of the chaos and the emotions.
