5 Ways to Make Your Décor Pop

There are lots of things that go into making an event a well-remembered experience. And, let’s face it, we all want our events to go down in history as one of the best EVER. The top contributing factors are the food, music and venue.  But, let’s not forget the décor.

It’s the décor that makes your event pop. It creates that wow effect that can leave your guests salivating over its splendor and creativity.

While we all like to be in step with the latest décor trends and it is great to incorporate some into your design, it can also be tiring trying to keep up with the constant changes. In addition, after all of the work to be on trend, it won’t take long for your pictures to look dated. This is why I like to mix some trendy items with classic elements that will withstand the test of time. Below are my 5 favorite failsafe approaches.

One. Comfy Spaces

No matter how formal the affair, your guests need a place where they can just relax and have an intimate conversation. How many times have you attended an engagement where all you wanted to do was find is a cozy lounge away from the noise where you can take your shoes off and catch your breath? Consider having a few of these spaces so people won’t be fighting to use it.

Two. Engage the Senses

Make the space visually interesting by combining complementary textures and patterns. Use more than one centerpiece design with varying heights. Add pops of color. And, don’t forget to elevate your décor to the overhead space. It can be as simple as adding strings of market lights or as extravagant as hanging floral arrangements from the ceiling.

Three. Incorporate Your Own Personality

Include items that reflect who you are or highlight some of the things you love. If you love to travel, name each guest table after a favorite city and incorporate something on each table related to that specific location.

Four. Be Innovative

Use common things in new ways. I saw a picture of a claw-foot tub that was filled with ice and used to chill beverages. While this might not exactly fit your design scheme, I think this depicts what I am suggesting. Creativity will always be noticed (and probably copied).

Five. Lighting

Atmospheric lighting sets the mood for the event and enhances the rest of the décor. Don’t you just love it when the lights dim or a spotlight comes on at just the right time? It allows your guests to feel like they are experiencing a class-A production…And, isn’t that exactly what you want?

The key thing to achieving the WOW look is to plan. Think about what you want your guests to see and feel. Also, pay attention to what you are experiencing when you attend an event. Notice what you like and do not necessarily care for. Then, engage your planner and together you will be able to achieve the event that family and friends will talk about for years to come.
