Mother’s Day 2020 Style
As May gets underway, one of the things that many will be ponding is what to do for Mother’s Day. For the past few months, everyone has been quarantined and there hasn’t been much focus on anything else. Now, as we are gradually released from isolation, there’s no better way to embark on our return to normalcy than celebrating the special women in our lives. However, as we all know, this Mother’s Day will not be like the others. The biggest difference is that some will not be allowed, or elect not, to venture out. So, what are some options for making our most cherished ladies feel special while sheltering in place? In addition, with stretched finances, what are some economical ways of showing appreciation without feeling like we are being cheap?
Here are 6 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day 2020.
1. Give Her Breakfast in Bed
Serving the mother of the house breakfast in bed is a traditional way of kicking off Mother’s Day. It’s just a perfect pampering moment. If you are fortunate enough to be sheltering together, prepare something simple (interpret this to mean “hard to ruin”), add a single flower to her breakfast tray, and you are golden. On the other hand, if you can’t physically be together, have a Zoom virtual breakfast date.
2. Treat Her to Dinner
For most people, dinner reservations will not be an option, but there are still ways to serve a professionally prepared meal.Since many establishments are offering carry-out service (and some are also selling flowers for Mother’s Day), it will be fairly simple to have your restaurant meal at home. And, if she’s not living in your home, order her dinner (with flowers) and hire a food delivery company to pick-up and drop-off the meal. Then, to really kick it up a notch, set the table with the finest table linen on hand and serve the meal using your best china. My one word of caution is to make these arrangements soon. The best restaurants are sure to be operating at capacity and could sell out.
3. Complete Her Household Chores
Instead of celebrating Mom just on Mother’s Day, appreciate her for the entire weekend. What chore does she dislike the most? Is it cleaning the house, doing the laundry, or picking up the groceries? Pick one or two and do them for her on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, favor her with another treat.
4. Go Public
Create a photomontage of your most cherished moments and post them on her most frequented social media site. Let the world, not just her, know how much she means to you.
5. Create Personalized Coupons
Make serveral coupons that she can cash in at her choosing. The offerings should be things that she will truly appreciate, and can be as simple or extravagant as you like. This is also a great project for the kids and is bound to be a hit. You can include things such as: washing her car, a morning to sleep late, a night out with the girls, or even a hug.
6. Give Her a Manicure and Pedicure
During these weeks of social distancing, professional manicures and pedicures have been on hold. No doubt, she’s longing for a “mani/pedi” and has been doing them herself. But, think how excited she would be if you did this for her? Granted, the polish might not be applied as well as when her favorite nail technician does it, but she will cherish it so much more.
