Keeping Things Intimate is the New Normal
As we continue in this phase of COVID-19 and social distancing, one of the outcomes is that small is the new big. What exactly does this mean? Stated differently, in the event world, small is now the new thing.
Despite all of the current uncertainties, people are still achieving landmark milestones that they want to (and should) memorialize and are asking:
How do we create a celebration that complies with current restrictions without feeling cheated?
Will we have to forego our traditions and long held dreams to hold our event now?
Should we have to wait for an uncertain amount of time for life to possibly return to more familiar circumstances?
The answer is that we don’t have to wait or compromise. While postponing is a choice, it’s not the only option.
As we cautiously emerge from this COVID-19 pandemic, we can still commemorate monumental moments in very historic ways. Whether holding a wedding, baby shower, retirement party, or any other event, it can still be fabulous. The number of in-person attendees and location do not dictate an event’s grandeur.
In this new reality, events with in-person attendees numbering from 2 to 50 guests has become the norm. And, with my know-how and creativity, these intimate affairs can hold all of the unique touches that make significantly special events without settling.
Regardless of the event size, once the theme has been narrowed down, there are still some basic planning nuts and bolts that require an event planner’s assistance, including:
Venue selection
Vendor recommendations
Planning checklists and guidance
Event theme consistency and personalization
Day-of event timeline and execution
Along with preparations for the in-person festivities, it has become increasingly important to include virtual guests in the experience. Your event curator can also provide a social media plan that will engage remote guests before, during, and after the event.
Without a doubt, events today (and possibly for the foreseeable future) will not look like the ones of just a year ago. However, during 2020, we’ve learned that bigger is not necessarily better. We have learned that sharing once-in-a-lifetime moments is best spent with the ones that are nearest and dearest to our hearts.
Sometimes, that is in person and sometimes it is at a distance. It simply requires recognizing your highest priorities and acting accordingly.
